As we progress through 2024 at a rapid rate! 😲 the fundraising landscape offers both opportunities and challenges. In May and June, we celebrated remarkable successes among the charities we support, raising over £100,000 in May alone, thanks to the generosity of trusts and foundations and our dedicated team.

However, the funding environment remains competitive, with many organisations seeking support. Here are some of our top tips for fundraising in this tough climate:

  • Build Strong Relationships: Personal connections with potential funders can make a significant difference. Take the time to build and nurture these relationships.
  • Be Transparent and Authentic: Clearly communicate your organisation’s mission, impact, and financial needs. Transparency builds trust and credibility.
  • Diversify Your Funding Sources: Don’t rely solely on trusts and foundations. Explore crowdfunding, corporate partnerships, and individual donations.
  • Trust and Foundation fundraising is a long game. One of our clients was recently awarded a grant based on a letter sent in June 2023. Some trusts and foundations meet once a year. So, MMC’s tip is to hold tight!
  • Tell Compelling Stories: Share stories that highlight the impact of your work. Emotional and relatable narratives can inspire donors to give.
  • Letters. Love them or loathe them, sometimes letter writing is the only way to apply to a trust/foundation. MMC’s tip is to concentrate on the local funders you are eligible to apply to. This is where we’ve seen the most success for our clients.

Spotlight on No Limits Cafe – The Launch of their Crowdfunding Page

An inspiring story comes from No Limits Cafe in Newton Abbot. No Limits is a nurturing and inclusive place where people with different abilities learn new skills, gain work experience, and transition to a more independent life. We are currently working with No Limits, a local cafe to us, for their Business plan and evaluation work. They help our sister company Phoenix Sounds by supplying bacon rolls for Record Store Day!

More than just a bustling café, No Limits breaks down community barriers, empowering adults with a range of physical, learning, and communication needs to gain employability skills and grow in confidence. Nearly 50% of their team includes people with disabilities, proving the café’s reliance on their invaluable contributions.

Despite their successes, the economic climate poses challenges, leading to a short-term funding crisis. No Limits has launched a Crowdfunding Campaign to continue offering opportunities to local people with different abilities and to meet the increasing demand for their services.

Donations will help them to:

  • – Expand work experience programmes.
  • – Create more job opportunities.
  • – Improve accessibility facilities.
  • – Support the high demand for their Supported Employment Outreach programme.

This campaign demonstrates the power of community support in achieving impactful results. Learn more and support their campaign by visiting their crowdfunding page.
