The Nest Project was formed around 6 years ago, starting as an embryonic church project. 'It’s main aim of re-distributing second hand baby and children's items to families with children aged 0-5 in need across BANES, has not changed but has grown.'. Initially a coffee morning would be held and used as a collection point for families, so they could register their needs and collect the goods, whilst connecting with the volunteers in the project team. During the pandemic the project had to move all collections and requests online, forming a click and collect service which worked well. Referrals come from two key sources, one is the statutory services e.g. health visitors and local authority staff. The other referrals are from individuals in need.
The project is managed by a small team of support staff (part time) and volunteers. Funding was sought from the Lottery and secured (79k over 2 years). The funding is to help deliver new groups, buy a vehicle and pay for staff time, plus evaluation of the project. Key delivery design will remain as click and collect for statutory organisations but in person for individuals. The team want the project to become more accessible to the wider community.
The project meets a number of needs; environmental sustainability / reducing waste and alleviating poverty.
The charity hadn’t worked with a consultant before but are in a good position with some statistical information, access to church suite (a reporting CRM that can be altered to collect different types of data), they also have a database of contacts via the Christmas box scheme. The main aims of the evaluation are to provide a summary of what is data is already being collected, advice on some improved methods and some ideas on KPIs, provide online training to staff and volunteers about gathering data and helping complete evaluation reports for the lottery as required.
MMC worked with The Nest Project over two years.
We provided an evaluation toolkit which enabled you to record and share outcomes of your services with others.
We also provided project evaluation reports – 2 for the Lottery and 2 Impact Report which were public facing documents available for a wider audience via the website.
"MMC were brilliant at helping us to work out what information and data we wanted to gather and report on, and as a new and growing project, this really helped us start the journey of having a very useful impact and development report." Vix CEO
